I. EDITORIAL \u2013 NEW MEASURES TO COMBAT MONEY LAUNDERING AND TERRORIST FINANCING<\/strong><\/p>\n

In August, we highlight the implementation of new measures against money laundering and terrorism financing, by the Law 83\/2017, which partially transposes European Diretives.<\/p>\n

The new law has a broad scope, including different kind of activities, such as banking, insurance, financial entities, gambling and even public entities, creating new duties of information and due diligence regarding high valuable financial transactions.<\/p>\n

Regarding tax law, we highlight several chances to the concerning Tax Procedure and Proceedings Code through Law no. 100\/2017 of August 28<\/strong>, as well as the new definitions in which a country, region or territory is classified to be a more favorable tax regime, for tax purposes through Law no. 91\/2017<\/strong> of 22 August.<\/p>\n

August also saw a reinforcement in the prevention of the practice of harassment in labor context approved by Law no. 73\/2017, of August 16<\/strong>, which provides for new obligations on the part of the employer directed to prevent or punish such acts, in addition to holding him responsible for the consequences thereof.<\/p>\n

Concerning case law, one must emphasize the importance of the Judgement of the Court of <\/strong>26 July 2017, Case C<\/strong>\u2011<\/strong>519\/16, <\/strong>regarding the feed and food law, animal health and animal welfare rules.<\/p>\n

Finally, the Portuguese Counsil of Ministers approved a decree-law which foresees a special early retirement allowance for beneficiaries of especially long contributive careers.<\/p>\n
